Honestly, my experience at McKinsey laid the foundation for my success. I learned a great deal there, including how to think in a structured way, break problems down into parts and use a problem-solving process to determine the best solutions for the individual problems. This way, you’ll always keep the essentials in mind.

I have learned that finding moments of bliss is important. Bliss is defined as a feeling that gives you good goosebumps. So you need to identify situations in your life that generate positive energy. If you can manage that, then you will be physically safe. However, you must identify these “reset and tilt” phases.

My desire to create something lasting drives me: a strong, medium-sized alternative that can stand up to large corporations. It’s about establishing a sustainable foundation that shapes our industry and provides succession solutions that bolster the SME sector. We don’t just want to keep up; we want to set the standard with our unique approach.

With 30 years of experience in the civil engineering industry, he is a true expert who knows the project site world from the ground up. As a networker with a strong connection to the culture of small and medium-sized infrastructure companies, he combines sound specialist knowledge with a solution-oriented approach.

Whether he's working as a site manager, calculator or contractor, he loves to think through complex projects and implement them successfully. Engineering plans, calculations and technical discussions are his terrain, and visits to project sites are part of his daily inspiration. Seeing how something has grown and become strong. Every day, I take pleasure in the fact that we have grown from a small business into a professional medium-sized company. We have formed a team that is capable of achieving great things. And the results in recent years reflect this.

The basic idea. I was drawn to the growth, and it fueled my ambition to bring something significant to life. Another benefit is that there are people at work who are down-to-earth and familiar with the subject matter. The bigger you get, the harder it is to keep your feet on the ground. But also the relationship to what you create. I believe we have mastered this challenge well. 

A healthy home and healthy structure are definitely needed. I think that is essential if you want to do what we are doing here. It wouldn’t work without my wife’s support either. On the other hand, TERRAS itself and our task also give me a lot of positive energy in return and I’m also happy about it, so it’s a closed cycle.

I have a constant inner drive. The desire for change and improvement is simply innate. I spend a lot of time thinking about tomorrow, and I can also apply that mindset very well at work. For me, the worst thing is standing still. That’s not me.

As a natural problem solver, he ensures that the right people are working in the right places at TERRAS. He propels the company’s development, streamlines processes, and ensures the holding company and succession planning always identify the right personnel. 

His greatest strength: He speaks the language of everyone involved, forges connections and spreads the TERRAS spirit throughout the group. He ensures the future viability of TERRAS with his clear eye for synergies and tireless focus on finding solutions.

Christoph Ströder

Questions for Christoph Ströder

My main responsibility is to create TERRAS from the sum of its subsidiaries. As an artificial product with no history or ancestry of its own, TERRAS needs an identity. Bringing the Sojka brothers’ brilliant idea to life and giving it DNA is only possible if each company’s unique DNA elements are reflected in it. My goal is to help companies join this mosaic and embrace the TERRAS spirit.

Personal exchange is crucial. One important element we use is bringing the right people together. Our management task is twofold: first, we buy complementary companies, and second, we bring the right types of entrepreneurs into the succession, unless they are already in place. Finding people who can manage an infrastructure construction company is not enough; we also need to find those with the right skills. We need to find people who can embody entrepreneurship and bring it to the table. At TERRAS, our job is to ensure that the right people succeed the departing owners.

Honesty is a core element for me. I was once told, “No truth is as bad as untruth.” My children hear that from me all the time. And no problem is too big to solve. Therefore, I place great importance on honesty and loyalty, two values that are deeply ingrained in TERRAS.
